The cod-Irish blarney that used to give us the creeps when this place was known as Scruffy Murphy's has, thankfully, been swept away since it has been rechristened the Red Lion. You can't get more English than that: it is the most popular pub name in the country.
Not much else has changed though and for this we can also be thankful. Ever lively, this is one of Chester' finest pubs with a long bar, crackling atmosphere and pleasant surroundings.
In the centre of town, where many of the pubs and bars are seen as warm-up exercises for a night in the clubs, this is one place which serves as a destination in its own right
